2000's albums / Silverchair
« Last post by Franck on January 23, 2019, 06:00:33 PM »
Let me start by saying i really, really like this album! And i can understand that someone who listens to it right now might think meh...
The reason i love this album is probably because of the following:

I listened to their first album Frogstomp (1995) a lot back then. Of course it was very Nirvana like and i was into Grunge.
At the end of the 90's i somewhat forgot about Silverchair.
A few years later, most likely 2003, i was walking near the Paradiso in Amsterdam, Holland and wondered which band people were standing in line for.
It turned out to be Silverchair!

I had no clue they were in town or that they even still were a band at all!
I soon found out it was sold out but lucky me found some guy selling a ticket.
So within 10 minutes of walking there i was inside, waiting for Silverchair to come on stage.

The last music from them i heard was that first album i mentioned above. So i expected a grungy show.
I was wrong!

Those young kids turned in a completely different direction over the years and moved away from grunge to make room for melodic rock and even pop-like songs. Although completely unexpected, it was just awesome!

Of course they still played their older and rougher songs as well.
Awesome concert, especially when you are on your way home haha!

Soon after the below album came out. Including DVD. Which obviously i picked up right away and watched many, many times over the years.

Give it a try, you might like it ;)

Hallo,
Wij zijn een poprockband waarin de meeste mensen rond de 50 zijn. We spelen veel classic rock nummers van oa herman brood, the cranberries, eric clapton, black sabbath eva.
Wij bestaan uit 3 gitaristen, een toetsenist, een drummer en een zangeres. Een bassist zijn we aan het zoeken.
Als er iemand is die intetesse heeft hoor ik dat graag.

Amps / SWR 350x bass head
« Last post by Franck on January 15, 2019, 11:15:43 AM »
Just took a picture for my Instagram so i guess i could post it here as well.

The SWR 350x head is of course well known. It's a good amp. Obvioiusly, as with any amp, some people love the tone, others don't.
One feature i really like is the subwave button/pedal. In my case i control it with the pedal (which i forgot to photograph). And it adds a really nice, well, subwave haha. It thickens the sound with an extra tone.

It sits on top of a very powerful Alumabass 4x10 cab. It has aluminium cones, like Hartke. And not only do they sound really good, i think the cabinet itself looks awesome!

I'm very happy with the set. It's being used for rehearsals and will also be on recordings in the near future!

90's albums / Sepultura

Surely a well respected trash metal band in the 80's and 90's. I guess this album got them in the more mainstream terrirtory. After this album i stopped following them. But good memories till that point!

Sepultura - Chaos A.D. - 1993

Refuse/Resist and "The Hunt" are my favorite tracks:

90's albums / Jeff Buckley

I was a huge Jeff Buckley fan! I spent quite some time in the 90's and early 2000's listening to his music. Though as with a lot of older music you kinda lose touch with it after a while. But finding this cd brings back good memories.

This specific album is a recording from his, i believe, early days before he had a record deal. He used to play in small music/coffee bar in NYC. He would play solo, a combination of his own songs and covers and just random stuff.
This album is really as close as you can get to listening to him as a person. Just doing what he enjoyed doing. Of course his first (and last "real" album) Grace is a work of art and also highly recommended.

A fun anecdote is how i found out about his music: This local cd store had the Grace album and it was displayed in front of some other cd's. And for a few weeks it just grabbed my attention walking past it every time. Finally i picked up because just had to know what kind of music it was. Obviously i bought it right that afternoon!

Here is one of my fav songs from the album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPrieDMB5Zs
It's a Van Morrison cover by the way.

Collective Soul - Shine -1993

I played this song A LOT. Funny enough i really liked this song but never bothered to listen to any of their albums.
This song was quite popular that year but i've rarely seen their name mentioned anywhere since then.

Anybody has anything to say about this band?

Here is a link to this great song!
